NCIS: Hawaii season 3 is happening; however, fans are in for a longer than anticipated wait for the show’s upcoming third season.

Although the original plan from CBS was to debut the new seasons of NCIS: Hawaii and NCIS this fall, the network had to pivot its fall calendar due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes which have prevented production on the new seasons from beginning.

With production unable to begin this summer, CBS has been forced to delay the returns of its many scripted dramas including its two NCIS series which will be held for the network’s midseason lineup.

When is NCIS: Hawaii season 2 coming out? (Release date predictions)

As of August 2023, CBS has not yet announced when exactly NCIS: Hawaii season 3 will be coming; however, we do know that the new season won’t arrive until early 2024.

Due to the ongoing strikes, production on season 3 has been on hold and will remain on hold until new deals have been reached between the studios and the unions. With production unlikely to begin until this fall, CBS was forced to shift the show’s return back to the midseason schedule.

Recent reports have hinted that if the strikes end in early September, production could begin in time for shows such as NCIS: Hawaii to return sometime in February. If the strikes run through early October, that timeline shifts back a bit with March looking like the most likely premiere window. And if the strikes run into late October or even early November? Well, that’s where things could get even more complicated.

We’ll be keeping an eye on the latest strike updates as the timing of when the strikes end will be key to figuring out when NCIS: Hawaii will premiere. For now, we know there is a long wait still ahead of us for season 3 of CBS’s hit drama.
