Chicago Med season 9: Will Marlyne Barrett return as Maggie Lockwood?

Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) was looking at the door in Chicago Med season 8. Due to the changing approach of Gaffney Medical Center, the character admitted that she considered leaving the place she had worked at for over a decade. Thankfully, she stuck around, as the people who changed the hospital for the worst relinquished control.

The big question going into season 9, of course, is whether Maggie will be returning, or if, given the fact that so many of her friends have decided to leave, she will leave as well. Is season 8 going to be the last time we see the character?

Is Maggie coming back for Chicago Med season 9?

No, it won’t. Maggie will indeed be returning for season 9, which is great news given that the show has already lost veteran players like Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) and Will Halstead (Nick Gehfluss) in the last few seasons. It’s definitely been a period of transition for Chicago Med, so being able to keep an anchor like Maggie is going to help a lot with bringing new characters in.

Barrett, who announced that she was battling uterine and ovarian cancer earlier in 2022, has been vocal about her desire to stay on the show. “Work brings me a lot of joy right now,” she told People Magazine. “It brings me a lot of reprieve to think about something other than, ‘When is my next chemo shift?’ and ‘How am I going to hug my children?’.”

Between Barrett’s eagerness, and the ongoing storyline involving Maggie and her love life, we’d say there will be plenty of screen time carved out for the character in season 9. It’ll be interesting to see how she fares with the Gaffney newcomers, and presumably serve as a mentor to them as the medical center gets back on track.
