Chicago Med season 9: Is Colin Donnell returning as Connor Rhodes?
It’s been a long time since Connor Rhodes was walking around Gaffney Medical Center.
The character was a major part of Chicago Med during its first few seasons, but his departure in season 5 has been followed by endless speculation about when and if he would return.
Chicago Med has cycled through lots of characters in the last year, and has parted ways with veterans like Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) and Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss), so is there a chance the show would dig back into its past and bring Rhodes back to reinvigorate fans?
Is Connor coming back for Chicago Med season 9?
Unfortunately, the chances are slim. The more time passes, the less likely it is that Rhodes will return, and the actor who plays him, Colin Donnell, has not had any conversations with the showrunners about what a possible return would even look like.
“I have no idea, to be honest,” Donnell told TV Insider in 2023. “I have not ever heard any news about Connor’s return, but I know that they said the door was always open and he’s somewhere at another hospital doing something.”

Showrunners Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider also discussed the possibility of bringing Rhodes back, and while vague, they were optimistic about things coming together at some point down the line.
“There’s a pretty good chance,” Scheider told the outlet. “It’s a question of logistics, and can we do it? But we would love to see Dr. Rhodes again. We want to bring him back in a meaningful way. We have a possibility if we can make it work.”
Donnell currently stars in the Peacock series Irreverent, which further complicates matters. Historically, actors who star on another show have difficulty carving out time to travel to Chicago to film scenes, so we’re not holding our breath when it comes to seeing Rhodes on Med season 9. Maybe in the future, but definitely not soon.
