Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) was present during some crucial moments in the season 10 finale of Chicago PD. The character took out the villain that the IU had been pursuing for several episodes, and shared an intense interaction with the nephew of said villain (who also shot Ruzek in the stomach).

Atwater has always been a stellar officer on the job, but given the sudden departure of Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and the possibility that Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) will die, is there a chance that the character won’t be returning for season 11?

Is Atwater leaving Chicago PD season 11?

Thankfully, Atwater will very much be in the mix for the upcoming season. LaRoyce Hawkins has made it clear that he’s involved with the procedural show, and even provided an update on it in light of the ongoing writers and actors strike.

During a recent master class presentation, the actor confirmed that season 11 is put on hold, and that it will take a bit before the writers and actors will be getting back to work. “From my personal research, we have a big hill to climb before we can find an agreement,” he explained. “I’m faithful and optimistic that it will only be a couple more months, if that, that we’re off.”

In a separate interview with Cinemablend, Benjamin Levy Aguilar also teased the possibility of there being more screen time between Hawkins and his character, newcomer Dante Torres, in season 11. “There’s a lot of Torres/Atwater action,” he said. “Like LaRoyce says, ‘OceanWater’. Yeah, there’s definitely a lot there, and I have so much fun sharing the screen with him.”

This makes sense, given that the character who originally functioned at Torres’ mentor, Halstead, has left the show. Hawkins seems like a natural successor, and it’s clear from their interactions so far that they go about things in a similar way. We look forward to seeing what they get up to when Chicago PD returns in 2024.
