Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray) has become a crucial part of the Blue Bloods formula. Her character development over the course of the show, and her romance with partner/husband Jamie Reagan (Will Estes), has provided the show with some of its best moments.

The question, of course, is whether Janko will continue to be part of Blue Bloods in season 14. The show flirted with the idea of cutting costs and crew members, but there have been steps taken on the part of the main cast to ensure this won’t happen. Is Ray part of the show’s collateral damage?

Is Vanessa Ray coming back to Blue Bloods?

Fortunately, the answer is no. Ray will be in fact be returning as Janko in season 14. The actress has had nothing but positive things to say about the show, and she went on to single out the family aspect of the storytelling during an interview with The Nerds of Color.

“We have this anchor of this family dinner that I think is the heart, that’s the bread and butter of the show,” she explained. “That’s what makes people keep coming back because they’re like, ‘I know that no matter what chaos is happening, I can see these people sit down, fight it out, make a joke, tell funny stories about their first kisses,’ like all those kinds of things that you have as a family. I think that we are also masters at that.”

Given that Janko is part of the Reagan family, and thus a member of the show’s famous dinner table scenes, it’s safe to assume that she will be part of Blue Bloods for as long as its on the air. There was nothing to suggest that Janko would be playing less of a role in the show’s future, in either the season 13 finale or the statements made by the showrunners during the off-season.

Generally speaking, there will be a press release confirming an actor’s upcoming exit, as was the case with Tracy Spiridakos on Chicago PD and Alexa Davalos on FBI: Most Wanted. Ray wasn’t able to discuss her Blue Bloods status during the actors strike, but she’s not said anything since it was resolved, which further solidifies the case that she’s sticking around.

Co-stars like Donnie Wahlberg and Tom Selleck have stated that they plan to make Blue Bloods episodes for as long as fans want to see them, so it sounds like Ray will be able to play Janko for years to come.
