Darren Ritter brings new ideas to Firehouse 51 all the time. What’s next for the character on Chicago Fire season 12? We take a look at possibilities.

We don’t get all that much time with Darren Ritter in Chicago Fire. It really is something that the show needs to fix. When we do get to see him, it’s always great things.

Ritter is one of those guys who has everyone’s backs. He will help out in the firehouse where needed, and he’s one to bring fresh ideas to bring in new people to the fire academy and show off what firefighters really do. He’s also looking for ways to secure his own future, which was something we saw with the micro-brewing idea with Gallo and Violet.

We still have a long wait for Chicago Fire season 12, but that doesn’t stop us from looking at what’s to come. There is nothing set in stone just yet as the writers and actors are on strike, but what could we see—and what do we want to see?

What will happen to Darren Ritter in Chicago Fire season 12?

When we spoke to Daniel Kyri about his character, he shared that there was hope of more focus on Ritter’s personal life. We need to see queer love in all its glory, and we need to see that queer love is so much like straight love. There are ups and downs. It’s not always perfect. Life is messy, and that’s what we need to see.

I’d also love to see more of Ritter trying to work on his future. There was this big focus on Ritter, Gallo and Violet working together in the way that Herrmann and Mouch did with the bar. The trio came up with a micro-brewing idea that had some great success. However, that storyline fizzled out as soon as the trio ran into a few problems due to Gallo not returning the feelings for someone. There’s not even been any mention of that.

This is also a great chance for Ritter to step up. He has been there for Herrmann to ease the burden there, and now we have Mouch out of action. Whether Mouch lives or dies, it’s going to have a knock-on effect for Ritter. Mouch is like a mentor to Ritter just like Herrmann, so everything that’s happened is sure to play on his psyche a little.
