Garrett Moore has never been the focal point of Blue Bloods. Sure, the character has been in 200 episodes to date, but his transformation from reporter to de facto chief of staff for commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) has mostly happened outside of the focus of the main characters.

It’s this secondary status within the show that has some fans concerned about Moore’s future. There have been rumors that CBS will make cuts to the budget for the upcoming season of Blue Bloods, and that Gregory Jbara, the actor who plays Moore, will be on the chopping block. Is this true?

Is Gregory Jbara returning to Blue Bloods?

The rumors started when a press release for season 14 was released, and appeared to leave a number of supporting actors off the list. The usual suspects were accounted for, including Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg, but someone like Jbara was notably absent. The press release was obtained by Starte Facts, who suggested that Jbara would be written out of the show entirely.

While there’s a possibility that the character of Moore will be axed, the exclusion of the actor who plays him from the press release is not really that surprising. Press releases for hit shows always make a point of emphasizing its stars, and they rarely include the name of every actor who will appear throughout a given season’s episodes.

Jbara has never been credited as part of the main cast of Blue Bloods, so his exclusion from the list makes sense. He’s a recurring presence on the show, as evidenced by the fact that he’s only been in a few episodes per season, so if anything it would have been strange to include him next to big names like Wahlberg or Bridget Moynahan.

Jbara’s place within Blue Bloods is further solidified by the fact that the show’s star, Tom Selleck, was the person who got him the gig in the first place. “The truth is I got hired because Tom said, ‘I want Greg Jbara to play the role,'” he told Starry Mag in 2020. “Blue Bloods is actually the third TV drama that Tom has given me… Tom and I had over twenty years of professional history together having started working together on the film In & Out.”

Another tell-tale sign that an actor is nearing the end of a line with a show is if they start booking appearances in other films and TV shows. Jbara is a prolific actor, but his workload hasn’t changed since the resolution of the strike.

Given that Moore can be used sparingly, fans can rest assured he will be sticking around to help Reagan with whatever difficult decisions season 14 brings his way.
