Hannah Asher is not a character thought would play a major role in the later seasons of Chicago Med. When she left the show in season, with a drug addiction and a medical career seemingly in shambles, it looked as though we would never hear from her again.
Then, quite suddenly, she was back in the mix for season 8. Asher, played by Jessy Schram, has had an incredible turnaround over the course of the series, and there’s definite interest from the fans to see where she goes next. Will she continue to be at the forefront of of the narrative?

All signs point to yes. NBC and Chicago Med showrunners have not been shy about Asher being a crucial part of the show for the foreseeable future, as evidenced by the fact that she was front and center on the poster for season 8. She’s been included as part of the main cast, and since people like Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) have decided to leave, she’s effectively stepped into the role of anchor for the rest of the Gaffney Medical Center employees.
We will have to wait, of course, to find out what happens with Asher in season 9 due to the writers and actors strike. Schram does not appear to be in a rush, though. The actress has been one of the most vocal cast members when it comes to championing the rights of actors, and pushing for better working conditions.
“We don’t want to be striking- but absolutely have to,” Schram wrote on Instagram. “I’ve been a SAG member since 1997. I’ve always felt the protection of my union and feel lucky and proud that it continues to fight to protect me and 159,000+ entertainers, to continue making chasing dreams and making a living- safely, financially and respectfully- in this world we call show business.”
She’s displaying the same tenacity that makes her performance as Asher so compelling. We can’t say we’re surprised!
