Sean Roman (Brian Geraghty) had a sneakily long stretch on Chicago PD. He was introduced in season 2 and left the show in season 3, but he returned for a single episode cameo in season 7, proving that he still had lots of sway with the fanbase. Roman’s dynamic with the rest of the IU, and Burgess (Marina Squerciati), in particular, makes him a fascinating presence within the world of the show.

Given that the character has already returned for a cameo, it would make sense that he would do so again in season 11. The IU is in a state of flux going into Chicago PD season 11, and Burgess is facing the possibility that Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) may die as a result of gunshot wound.

Will Sean Roman come back to Chicago PD?

It sounds exciting, but there are a few reasons why Roman’s return is unlikely. For one, his return in season 7 was effective because it involved his family, his relationship with Burgess, and his own guilt at having committed a crime. The episode “Burden of Truth” ends with Voight (Jason Beghe) deciding to let Roman go, despite the fact that he killed a drug dealer who had abused his sister.

It would be very tricky to bring Roman back into the mix without addressing the fact that he was let off for a crime. The way they ended things in season 7 sort of implies that Voight and the rest of the gang will never seen Roman again, so the idea of him returning a second time would take the power out of it.

There’s also the fact that Brian Geraghty has a busy schedule these days. He recently starred in the miniseries 1923 and the limited series Gaslit (both 2022) and is slated to appear in the drama film Red Right Hand opposite Orlando Bloom and Andie McDowell. We’re happy to see that a PD alumni is doing well, especially since his character’s story is basically over.
