Is NBC airing reruns of Chicago PD in fall 2023?
All three One Chicago shows have been put on the shelf for the rest of 2023. The writers and actors strike have made it impossible for NBC to move forward with production, so the franchise has been pushed back to an undetermined time in 2024. It’s simple enough, but what’s proven a bit confusing is the network’s schedule when it comes to reruns for Chicago PD.
While there are no plans to air reruns for Chicago Fire or Chicago Med during the fall season, NBC will indeed be airing reruns of Chicago PD. Why? Well, it comes down to timing. The network still has a few new seasons to roll out during the fall season, many of which were completed before the strike, so the time slots that would have otherwise been occupied by Fire and Med have been taken over by the likes of America’s Got Talent and its subsequent reruns.

The reason PD has been selected as the One Chicago show that will continue to air reruns is all due to timing. The show is the third and last to air following the other two shows, which means its time slot isn’t as precious as say, the Chicago Fire slot. America’s Got Talent will occupy the space typically reserved for the firefighting drama, while PD will continue to be the lead in for local news.
In terms of which season PD will rerun, the odds are in favor of season 10. Generally, NBC likes to air more recent episodes, and given that fans will have to wait much longer to get season 11, it’s a smart move.
While the hope is that PD and the rest of the franchise can return in January 2024, the current state of the strike suggests that it could be pushed back as far as May, which would mean a significantly condensed season (think 6-8 episodes). We’re hoping things get resolved soon.
