Emily Foster certainly divided the opinion of fans of the series, but her exit was a little abrupt. Could Annie Ilonzeh return in Chicago Fire season 12?

There are some character exits that are more abrupt than others. Emily Foster’s exit was one of them. We suddenly found out that she’d been accepted in a medical school program, and she left the firehouse for that.

This did come at the time of the pandemic shutting down all filming. The shows had to end abruptly, and it looks like there was more of an exit storyline planned, but the way things ended in Chicago Fire season 8 were good enough to push forward with a change of paramedic in season 9.

Now the question is whether we could ever see Emily Foster return. Could Annie Ilonzeh reprise her role in Chicago Fire season 12?

Will Annie Ilonzeh return in Chicago Fire season 12?

It is highly unlikely that we’ll see Ilonzeh return in Chicago Fire season 12. Part of that is due to the current writers strike. The season is already going to be much shorter than the others, leaving less time to develop the storylines that are already in place. Bringing back another past character wouldn’t make sense.

That being said, we could see her return in the future if storylines and schedules align. After all, Foster went off to medical school. That means she could return as a doctor in need of Firehouse 51’s help. Maybe she could be in Chicago Med, allowing for some mini-crossover moments between the shows.

It would be good to see where Foster is now. I’d love it to find out that she managed to succeed at med school. However, the series doesn’t tend to bring a lot of past characters back, and there would need to be a good storyline in place to warrant Foster’s return. It can’t just be for the sake of it as we don’t really need all that much closure despite the way Chicago Fire season 8 ended.
