The 2022-23 television season brought about a wave of exciting new series, but there is no denying the biggest hit of the season was CBS’s firefighter drama Fire Country.

Fire Country follows Bode Donovan, a young convict attempting to get his life back on track by joining a firefighting program in Northern California which gives inmates the chance to work off their sentences fighting wildfires alongside the elite Cal Fire firefighters. When Bode ends up getting assigned to the program based in his hometown, he’s forced to face the demons of his past while attempting to redeem himself to those he loves.

The series’ first season was an incredible ride from start to finish, keeping audiences on the edges of their seats with its action-packed storylines and bold plot twists.

Eager to know what’s to come next for CBS’s breakout drama? Below, we break down everything there is to know about the upcoming second season of Fire Country. Last Updated: September 22, 2023.

Is Fire Country canceled?

Fear not, Fire Country has not been canceled! In fact, the show was the first new series CBS handed out a renewal to during the 2022-23 TV season in an early vote of confidence in the show. Luckily for CBS, the show only managed to build upon its momentum as the weeks went by becoming one of CBS’s most-watched programs across the season and a breakout hit for the network.

After its successful first season, Fire Country will return for a second season. Fans are just going to have to wait a bit for season 2 to arrive as Fire Country season 2 will not premiere in 2023.

Why isn’t Fire Country coming back this year?

Sadly, a new season of Fire Country will not be coming in 2023 despite CBS’s hope to release season 2 this fall. Fire Country is among the many broadcast scripted series which has been directly impacted by the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes with the show’s return delay tied directly to the strikes.

As both the writers and actors are on strike, production on season 2 has yet to begin which is why CBS will not have new episodes to roll out this year. Instead, the network was forced to delay Fire Country‘s return to 2024.

Fire Country season 2 release date predictions

At this point, the earliest we could see Fire Country season 2 arrive will be in the spring of 2024 with the running expectation being that the season could arrive in February or possibly early March. The show’s return in the spring is contingent upon the studios reaching new agreements with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA unions in order to get production up and running in time to turn out episodes in the spring.

The running timeline from studio insiders is that the strikes need to end by Oct. 1 in order for shows to begin production in time for them to return in early 2024. If the unions and studios are unable to make a deal by then, there is a strong chance that shows like Fire Country could be delayed even further.

Fire County season 2 cast

While there is a chance we could see some shakeups to the Fire Country recurring and guest cast in season 2, the great news for fans is that all of their favorite series regular characters should be back next season! CBS has not announced any cast departures which means the following Fire Country cast members should all be returning for season 2:

  • Max Thieriot as Bode

  • Billy Burke as Vince

  • Kevin Alejandro as Manny

  • Diane Farr as Sharon

  • Stephanie Arcila as Gabriela

  • Jordan Calloway as Jake

  • Jules Latimer as Eve

Will Bodie and Gabriela get back together in Fire Country season 2?

One of the biggest cliffhangers to come out of the Fire Country season 1 finale was Bode deciding to take the fall for a crime he didn’t commit in order to help Freddie secure his freedom. In doing so, Bodie left Gabriela heartbroken and things did not look good for the pair as the season came to an end as they were very much on the outs. Unfortunately, it sounds like when season 2 arrives they won’t be rushing back into anything.

Speaking with TVLine after the finale, Stephanie Arcila, who plays Gabriela on the show, revealed she believes Gabriela will be taking some space after Bodie’s actions and won’t be diving back into any relationships:

"“I think what Gabriela will do right now is take some space. I don’t think she would jump into something right away. Even in a moment in her life where she has no control over everything that’s happening, she will do her best.”"

Is there a Fire Country season 2 trailer?

Unfortunately, because filming on Fire Country has not yet begun, we do not have a trailer or any promotional materials for Fire Country season 2. It’s highly likely we won’t see any new footage for season 2 until early 2024 due to the ongoing strikes that have prevented production from beginning. Once the filming is able to begin on season 2, we should see CBS begin putting out some teasers to build excitement around the show’s return!
