NCIS has had its fair share of offscreen drama. The oral history that was recently put out by the Hollywood Reporter addressed some of the tension that surfaced between the cast members, as well as certain producers and/or showrunners. The one person that everyone seemed to adore, however, was David McCallum.

McCallum, who played Donald “Ducky” Mallard, died on Monday at the age of 90. There’s been an outpouring of kind words from his collaborators and former peers, including Pauley Perrette. The actress hasn’t had much to say about NCIS in recent years, but she took time out to reflect on her time with McCallum.

“Oh David”, she wrote on Instagram. “What a life. What a legend. What a journey. And your legacy Will always be The love you have for your family. Love to Katherine and the kids and the grandkids, your absolutely very favorite things.” The caption was accompanied by a series of photos that run in chronological order, from the start of the show in 2003 to the end of Perrette’s tenure.

The last photo on the post is particularly heartwarming, as it sees McCallum and Perrette holding up a written message that reads: “Thank you for all your wonderful messages! Love you all.” It was a nod to the fans at the time, but it’s taken on additional relevance in light of McCallum’s death.

This isn’t the first time that Perrette has praised her former co-star. In 2014, the actress posted a tweet that read: “David McCallum is a total treasure. An honor to know and work with him. #NCIS.” The show won’t be the same with both characters now gone, but we’re glad we got to see them interact for so many seasons.

McCallum has also been remembered by executive producers Steven D. Binder and David North, as well as actors Michael Weatherly and Mark Harmon. Click below to see what Harmon had to say about the former Man from U.N.C.L.E. star.
