Danny Reagan is part of the Blue Bloods triumvirate. He’s one of the main characters of the show, alongside his dad Frank (Tom Selleck) and his sister Erin (Bridget Moynahan). He’s also led most of the criminal cases that the show has revolved around, making him the most active and crucial of the show’s investigators.

As the show stretches into its fourteenth season, however, there are some questions as to how much longer the characters will be around. Will Danny be leaving the show? Is retirement for him, and subsequently, the actor who plays him, be coming up in the near future?

Is Danny Reagan leaving Blue Bloods?

The answer on both counts is a resounding no. Danny is the most pugnacious when it comes to being a police officer, and Donnie Wahlberg is arguably the biggest Blue Bloods champion of the entire cast. As we previously covered, Wahlberg was the one who convinced Moynahan to join the cast initially, and has been tireless in his promotion of the show via social media (barring the time period during the actors strike, of course).

The actor talked to Us Weekly about the show’s enduring success, and he attributes part of it to his mental approach. He takes each episode, and each season, as it comes:

"“One of the things I’ve done is I try to just stay very present in each episode and take each script that comes my way and say, ‘OK, what’s gonna happen now? You know, what am I doing this week?’ And kind of find the journey in that particular episode and not get caught up in what’s gonna happen next year, what’s gonna happen in two years.”"

As for whether he considers hanging up the gun and badge, nothing could be further from the truth. In the same interview, Wahlberg mentioned Law & Order: SVU, and his aspiration to play Danny for as long as the cast on that show. “SVU, I mean, Ice-T and Mariska Hargitay have been going for gosh, so many years and we hope to last as long as they have”, he noted.

We hope Wahlberg gets his wish.
