With the writers’ strike officially over, NBC is said to be wasting no time in looking to get Chicago Fire and the Dick Wolf shows back on the schedule.

After the WGA strike came to a close on Sept. 27, 140 days after it began in early May, networks immediately began making moves to get production back up and running on their biggest shows. As expected, each network has its own priority shows and it should come with a sigh of relief for One Chicago fans to know that the Wolf Entertainment series are the top priority for NBC!

According to a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter, NBC’s Wolf Entertainment series are “considered to be the top priority to get back on the air” with NBC prioritizing Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Chicago Med, Law & Order, and Law & Order: SVU among its scripted originals. This is great news for One Chicago fans as it means the network is dedicated to getting the shows back on air as soon as possible which should mean a shorter wait for the show’s returns.

In fact, it seems that NBC is looking to have its scripted shows back on air sooner than any of the other major broadcast networks.

Chicago Fire and the One Chicago shows could be back as early as January

While nothing has been set in stone just yet as networks are still in limbo with the actors’ union remaining on strike, it has been revealed that NBC is looking to have its scripted originals back on the schedule as early as January 2024! That’s well ahead of the timeline most other networks are looking at with the likes of ABC, CBS, FOX, and The CW eyeing returns between February and April for many of their scripted originals.

What could help the One Chicago shows make it back to the air faster is the efficiency with which Wolf Entertainment operates. The production banner is known for being one of the most efficient studios in the industry with an ability to turn out new episodes at an incredible pacing which is likely to help the shows make it back to the airwaves faster than many other shows.

Writers rooms for the One Chicago shows, as well as two of the Law & Order franchises, have already been established with work officially underway on the new seasons. Scripts for the seasons are being worked on as we speak which will allow filming to begin in a relatively quick manner once the SAG-AFTRA strike comes to an end.

We should learn more about the exact time for the One Chicago shows’ return after the actors’ union inks a new deal with the studios, but all signs are pointing towards an early return for the Wolf Entertainment series in 2024. Now that is something to celebrate!
