The wheels are turning! NBC recently confirmed that the writers room for Chicago Fire has opened back up, which means new episodes for season 12 are being drafted as we speak. The official One Chicago Instagram account has also been active as of late, posting different photos of the cast in what feels like a encouraging sign of things to come.

‘We love a trio in uniform” read the caption for a photo that shows Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende) and Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) standing in the middle of the street. It’s likely a photo from season 11, but the enthusiastic comments from fans communicate a buzz that hasn’t been present since the show’s delay was announced.

The Instagram account also had some fun with the cast members by referencing the on/off villain played by (Caitlin Carver). The caption reads: “When Emma Jacobs is anywhere near Firehouse 51” and the accompanying video shows various cast members looking frightened by the mere mention of her name.

There’s still no word on when Chicago Fire will return with new episodes, but October is proving to be a great month for longtime fans. NBC has confirmed that the firefighting drama will be “taking over” during the Halloween season with a handful of crucial reruns. The schedule for the month is as follows:

October 4: Season 11, Episode 11 “A Guy I Used to Know”
October 11: Season 11, Episode 16, “Acting Up”
October 18: Season 11, Episode 17, “The First Symptom”
October 25: Season 11, Episode 18, “Danger is All Around.”

These episodes may still be fresh in the minds of fans, but it’s great to see Chicago Fire back on the small screen, and the events that take place in these episodes, namely, the return of Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer), will play a crucial role in what happens during the season 12 premiere.

We’re still chomping at the bit to find out what happens between him and Brett (Kara Killmer), but the activity on the show’s Instagram page, coupled with the appointment of Andrea Newman as the new showrunner (she previously co-ran the show with Derek Haas), proves that we are closer than ever to getting new Chicago Fire.
