Chicago Fire loves a good cliffhanger, and season 11 had more cliffhangers for a finale episode than ever. The well-being, the careers, and the personal lives of multiple characters were thrown into question in ways both good in bad. There’s a good chance that Firehouse 51 is going to look very different when season 12 premieres in 2024.

The hiatus between seasons has been tough, especially given that Chicago Fire was already slated to return in the fall, and was subsequently pushed back due to the Hollywood strike. There are lots of storylines and character arcs that we’d like answers to, but these are the three that we need to get clarity on as soon as humanly possible.

Is Mouch going to die on Chicago Fire season 12?

Mouch (Christian Stolte) is an invaluable member of the 51, so it was pretty tough to watch as he got shot by a sniper, and was subsequently rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. He was last seen in a hospital bed, bleeding profusely and registering an alarmingly low pulse. We need to find out whether he lives or dies!

Mouch’s death would not only strip Fire of a warm presence but it would have ripple effects on the rest of the One Chicago franchise. It’s hard to imagine a world where Herrmann (David Eigenberg) isn’t devastated by the loss of his best friend, and Chicago PD‘s Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) would be a completely different person if she were suddenly widowed. We really want Mouch to pull through, and we need to get an update on his condition in the season 12 premiere.

Is Brett leaving Chicago Fire in season 12?

Brett (Kara Killmer) is on the cusp of a new chapter in her life. She not only decided to adopt a little girl, but she was proposed to by her ex-boyfriend, Casey (Jesse Spencer), despite the fact that he no longer lives in Chicago.

Both of these decisions point towards a sense of finality with the character, as we can’t really envision a happier ending for her than marrying the love of her life and becoming a mother. The trade off, of course, is that Brett may decide to move to Oregon to live with Casey, which would mean she leaves the show. We’re torn on the notion of losing such an important character, but either way, we’d like to find out whether she said yes.

Is Severide coming back to Chicago Fire season 12?

Severide probably had the strangest arc of season 11, and it was largely due to the fact that the actor playing him, Taylor Kinney, announced he was taking a leave of absence. The writers had to scramble to come up with a way to get him off the show, and it ended up feeling scrambled. The finale had Severide withholding information from his wife, Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), and going around the country helping various organizations with arson cases.

Couple things here: we need to find out what he’s been up in the time since he’s left, why he chose to lie to Kidd, and what his bizarre actions say about his plans for the future. It feels like the show is a bit unsure of what to do with the character, and the sooner we get clarity the better.
