911 season 7 release updates, strike news, cast, and everything we know so far
By Cody Schultz
While there are many amazing first responder dramas on air at the moment, there is no denying that 911 is absolutely at the top of the class.
When it comes to delivering heart-pounding action, no one does it better than 911 which has put the 118 team through the ringer over the years as they’ve faced just about every natural disaster you can think of. Although the series does an amazing job at telling action-packed stories connected to the calls the team responds to, the show also has the perfect blend of humor and heart to balance things out and keep fans coming back season after season.
As we wait for the arrival of 911 season 7, we’ve rounded up everything that we know so far about the upcoming seventh season of Ryan Murphy’s hit drama to help keep fans up to date on the latest developments!
FOX canceled 911, but ABC saved the day!
Technically speaking, 911 was canceled but the show was quickly saved once FOX made the decision not to bring the show back for another season. FOX opted not to bring the show back for a seventh season; however, the studio behind the series wasn’t prepared to let the hit series go off the air and a deal was inked to move the show to ABC.
After six seasons on FOX, 911 will be making the move to ABC for the 2023-2024 season. This means the show’s upcoming seventh season will be airing on a brand new network next season. The change in network stems from FOX passing on a seventh season due to licensing fees which led 20th Century to move the series over to ABC as a way to keep the show going.
"“Thanks to the creative drive of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, as well as the talented cast, 9-1-1 has been one of the most defining and original dramas on network television over the last six seasons and we are honored to bring it to the esteemed group of series on ABC,” said Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group. “It’s a privilege to keep 9-1-1 in the family with 20th Television producing, and we look forward to telling more heart-racing and uplifting stories about these beloved characters on our air.”"
911 season 7 might be coming in March 2024
In a since-removed promo shared on social media, it was revealed that 911 season 7 will be coming to ABC on Thursday, March 14, 2023! Fans of the hit series were quick to share the promo which continues to circulate online via accounts such as 911 News which gives fans the chance to see the promo which revisits some of the many epic and memorable rescues from over the years before teeing up the show’s March premiere date.
The date has since been confirmed by ABC, who will be looking to kick off its midseason schedule beginning in January with shows returning through March.
A Thursday release for 911 is actually quite interesting as it could see the show paired with ABC’s two other top-rated first responder dramas. 911 will be airing alongside both Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy which will make for quite an action-packed night of television for fans.

911 season 7 cast
Although ABC has not confirmed the cast for 911 season 7, it is expected that all key members of the show’s ensemble will be back for season 7. Here is a breakdown of the key cast members from the series who we anticipate will be back for season 7:
- Angela Bassett as Athena Grant-Nash
- Peter Krause as Captain Bobby Nash
- Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Buckley
- Oliver Stark as Buck Buckley
- Aisha Hinds as Hen Wilson
- Kenneth Choi as Howard ‘Chimney’ Han
- Ryan Guzman as Eddie Diaz
- Gavin McHugh as Christopher Diaz
- Corinne Massiah as Abby Clark
What remains unclear is whether we might see some of the show’s recurring cast members back in action including Anirudh Pisharody (Ravi Panikkar), Tracie Thoms (Karen Wilson), John Harlan Kim (Albert Han), and Arielle Kebbel (Lucy Donato).
911 season 7 will be shorter than most seasons
Most seasons of 911 consisted of 18 episodes; however, we’re anticipating that season 7 will be one of the show’s shorter seasons with it looking very likely the season could consist of 10-13 episodes. This shortened episode count is due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA-related production delays which prevented production from beginning during the summer when most fall shows typically start.
While episode counts have started to be released for some shows, ABC has yet to confirm the exact number of episodes season 7 will consist of. What has been confirmed is that filming is set to begin in January 2024 which will pave the way for the show to return with new episodes in March as 911 makes the move to ABC.
