What is the highest rated episode of Blue Bloods? (Per IMDb)
Everybody has their favorite episode of Blue Bloods. There are 13 seasons to choose from, for crying out loud. The police procedural has given us countless highlights over the years, whether they consist of tender family moments or pulse-pounding action involving cops and criminals.
While each fan is drawn for Blue Bloods for slightly different reasons, there does seem to be a consensus when it comes to which episode is the absolute best. We decided to go to IMDb, the arbiter of all things ranked, and determine which one stands head and shoulders above the rest. What we found was that there were actually two episodes tied for the top spot!
What is the best Blue Bloods episode?
There are a pair of episodes that have received an impressive 9, and the first one is the beloved “My Aim Is True”, which aired back in 2018. The episode is about a string of drive-by murders that take place after a group of men are released from prison, and the investigation by Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) into whether the two events are linked.
It’s a classic Blue Bloods case, and it still plays well when you know where the story is going. The secondary storyline is impactful on an emotional level, as Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) reconnects with an old friend who’s dying from a 9/11 related illness. It’s here that we learn that Frank was a first responder on that fateful 2001 day, and the delicate way with which the material is handled is part of the reason it remains Selleck’s personal favorite episode.

The other episode to receive a 9 on IMDb is “Family Secrets”, which aired back in 2020. This one is about the revelation that Joseph Reagan, Frank’s dead son, has a son of his own named Joseph Hill (Will Hochman). It was an absolute bombshell of a revelation, and it recontextualized the legacy of the elder Joseph by giving him a living heir who works within the New York Police Department.
Joseph Hill has been a fascinating addition to Blue Bloods in the years since, especially as the years wear on, and his relationship with his aunt Erin (Bridget Moynahan) and uncle Danny develops.
