Chicago Fire season 12 gets one step closer to starting production
It’s been a month of highs and lows for Chicago Fire. The writers room for the firefighting drama was opened following an agreement between the studios and the WGA, but the actors strike has worn on without a clear end date in sight. The show has been confirmed to return in 2024, but the uncertain nature of the actors strike has kept an exact release date from materializing.
Fortunately, the One Chicago franchise has taken another step forward. A small step, perhaps, but a step nonetheless. According to Reel Chicago, Chicago Fire and its peer shows have opened their production offices for the first time since the previous seasons wrapped shooting.
When is the Chicago Fire start date in 2023?
The production crew for Chicago Fire have been given a start date of November 1 to start prepping the soundstages for season 12. Whether or not the date is upheld is dependent on the previously mentioned actors strike. If the upcoming negotiations hit a speed bump, then the production crew will be forced to postpone and prep soundstages later in the month.
This would not be the first time that the crews have been hit with a delay. The original start date was October 26, which makes sense given that they are usually given eight days to prepare for a shoot. Even though we have been here before, the fact that information about soundstages and start dates are making their way online is an encouraging sign.

It suggests that we’re actually getting closer to seeing a deal get solidified between the actors and the studios, which means closer to seeing production officially resume on Chicago Fire. If NBC calls for production to carry on through the holiday season, which is typically avoided, then we could be looking at a 2024 return near the top of the year.
This would be a major improvement on the way things were looking a few months ago, when industry insiders speculated that Fire and the rest of the franchise would be missing in action until the summer or even next fall.
