NCIS returns to CBS’ November lineup (but there’s a twist)
There has been lots of NCIS news as of late. The procedural drama recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, mourned the death of longtime cast member David McCallum, and teased the release of the new spin-off, NCIS: Sydney. It doesn’t stop there. According to Deadline, NCIS will be taking over primetime slots for CBS throughout November.
The decision came about after the network decided to axe the game show Loteria Loca. The show aired five low-rated episodes during October, and CBS has decided that it would be better to scrap it and prioritize the NCIS brand. NCIS episodes will be airing from 8-11 pm on November 6 and 13, as a lead-in to the premiere of the aforementioned NCIS: Sydney.
What is the NCIS schedule on CBS in 2023?
The catch, of course, is that these NCIS episodes will be reruns from season 20. This is a common practice for networks, especially when its gearing up for the release of a new show and the lineup is reliant on underperforming shows. NCIS has always been a vital brand for CBS, but the fact that the upcoming spin-off is the only procedural to have new episodes during the fall makes it even more important.
The November slate for CBS is chock full of NCIS reruns, as they will be used to sandwich game shows and prep viewers for what to expect with NCIS: Sydney. Here’s a rough outline of the CBS schedule for the month:

Several shows have begun opening their writers rooms, and One Chicago has even begun prepping the soundstages for the eventual return of the cast. This culminated with the resolution of the actors strike on Wednesday, November 9, which means production should be resuming shortly on the newest season.
