14 seasons into its run, Blue Bloods remains a staple on CBS’s primetime schedule as one of the network’s most-watched dramas.

While the series is an amazing crime drama, what has always set the show aside from the rest in the crowded field is the Reagan family, a multigenerational family of cops. The Reagans are the first family of the NYDC led by the family’s patriarch, New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan. Through their various roles in law enforcement, the Reagans protect and serve the great city of New York in their own unique ways with law enforcement being the family business.

14 seasons in, the show is just as beloved by fans who are eager to know what to expect from the next season.

Below, we share everything we know about Blue Bloods season 14. As we learn more information, we’ll update this story. The latest update was on Monday, November 13, 2023.

Blue Bloods season 14 will be the show’s shortest season yet

While most seasons of Blue Bloods consist of 20-22 episodes, season 14 is expected to be the show’s shortest season yet! CBS has yet to confirm the exact episode order for the show’s upcoming fourteenth season, but it has been confirmed that Blue Bloods will be looking at a season between 10-13 episodes.

Regardless of how many episodes season 14 ends up being, anything under 16 episodes will make the season the shortest season of Blue Bloods yet. At the moment, the shortest season of Blue Bloods is season 11 which was 16 episodes. That season’s shorter episode count was due to the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 which saw most TV shows beginning production later than usual and producing shorter seasons as a result.

The only other season of Blue Bloods that consisted of less than 20 episodes was season 10, which wrapped with 19 episodes after production was shut down due to the pandemic.

Blue Bloods will begin filming before 2023 ends

While there have been conflicting reports regarding when the next season of Blue Bloods will begin filming, what we do know for certain is that filming will begin before 2023 comes to a close!

There are reports that Blue Bloods season 14 is eyeing a post-Thanksgiving start, but it’s unclear whether the show will kick off filming in the final days of November or begin filming in December. All we know is that once cameras begin rolling, we should start getting even more news about the upcoming season including our first looks from the set.

Beginning filming before the end of the year, also helps the show’s odds of getting more episodes completed this season which we’re CBS is hoping to do.

Season 14 is not expected to be the last season of Blue Bloods

It’s always hard to know when a show will come to an end, but it seems there are no plans to end Blue Bloods with its upcoming fourteenth season. While there are a lot of uncertainties following the strikes and the delayed returns for shows, many members of the cast have hinted that they’d like to see the show go at least 15 seasons and we imagine CBS would like to keep the show around as long as possible as well.

When TV Insider asked Tom Selleck about the possibility of making it to 15 seasons after co-star Bridget Mynahan said making it to 15 seasons would be lovely, Selleck confirmed he’s game.

Given ratings for the show remain strong with the series not only remaining Friday’s most-watched program but also one of TV’s most-watched shows, we imagine CBS will look to keep the show going for as long as possible.

Knowing season 14 is going to be a short season due to the delayed start of production, we also imagine CBS would look to send the show off with a proper send-off rather than a rushed and shortened season.
