3 Chicago Fire stories we want to see (and 2 we don’t)

Chicago Fire writers are putting episodes together as we speak, and there are lots of directions they could go. The season 11 finale was one of the most cliffhanger-filled episodes in the show’s history, with the fates of Severide (Taylor Kinney), Brett (Kara Killmer) and Mouch (Christian Stolte) being left unclear and up to the imagination of the fans.

It’s an exciting way to leave things, but the fact that fans have had to wait much longer than usual for a resolution is not ideal. We have had several months to contemplate what we want to happen versus what we think will happen versus what we don’t want to happen. Now that we know the show is starting up production in the next month, we decided to list out some of these do’s and don’t’s.

We want to see Kidd and Severide reunite

Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) had a pretty rough season 11. She was nearly killed on her honeymoon, she had emergency surgery after surviving an explosion, and her husband is traveling the country and working arson cases without telling her. We want season 12 to be a bounce back season for Kidd, and it starts by getting her and Severide back on the same page.

These two have had their differences in the past, but they’re going to have to sit down and hash things out if they want to save their marriage. Given that they’ve been married for less than a year, we hope they do just that. We don’t want to see these two wind up divorced.

We don’t want Emma Jacobs to return to the 51

Emma Jacobs (Caitlin Carver) was a great antagonist in season 10, and her unexpected return for an episode in season 11 was a reminder of how effective she could be with limited screen time. The thing is, season 12 is going to be the shortest yet, and we’d prefer it if writers focused on the main cast, rather than try to incorporate storylines with peripheral characters.

We’re not opposed to bringing Jacobs back, and her season 11 cameo suggests that there is still lots to develop between her and Violet (Hanako Greensmith), but we think the limited screen time the show will have in season 12 will be better spent on the members of the 51. Right?

We want more Sam Carver and Violet scenes

Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) and Violet didn’t have a ton of interaction in season 11, but the season finale hinted at the possibility of a romance, or at least a hook-up between the two of them. We’re all for it. Carver has spent most of his screen time with Kidd, so it would be nice to see a different side of him through someone else, and Violet has struggled to get her footing after the death of her boyfriend, Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas).

We’re not saying these two will become the new “it” couple of the show, but there is something undeniably fascinating about pairing these two together at a crucial point in both of their lives. Sounds like entertaining television to us.

We don’t want to see Mouch to die in season 12

What a bummer Mouch’s death would be. He’s tied with Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) for most beloved character on the show, and as any long time fan call tell you, Chicago Fire has no problem killing off its beloved characters (RIP Otis). Mouch’s injury is such that he should be able to recover from it, but things admittedly looked pretty bad as the season 11 finale came to an end.

Mouch’s death would impact the greater One Chicago franchise. Him being gone would leave a big hole in the Chicago Fire ensemble, and it would absolutely devastate his wife and Chicago PD star, Trudy Platt (Amy Morton). Fingers crossed the 51 veteran pulls through.

We want Brett and Casey live happily ever after

Who doesn’t like these two? It was tough to see Brett and Casey (Jesse Spencer) break up in the season 11 premiere, but it only made the decision to bring them back together in the finale all the more rewarding. Casey proposed, and of course, the episode cut to black before we heard Brett’s answer.

All signs point to Brett saying yes, and it’s what we all want to see. These two have been through a lot as a couple, but it seems like they’re at a similar point in their lives where they are looking at becoming parents and wanting to take on responsibilities beyond their job descriptions. It might mean these two leave the show, but it’s worth it to give them the send-off they deserve.
