There’s good and bad news. The good news is the actors strike was resolved in November, which means that scripted shows like Blue Bloods will be able to start production and gear up for a 2024 release. It’s a long time coming, since the show was originally supposed to air during the fall, but the recent announcements from CBS confirm that fans won’t have to wait much longer.

According to TV Insider, Blue Bloods season 14 will premiere on Friday, February 16. This is a huge development for the procedural drama, which will be aiming to start filming in November or early December, depending on how early the sets will be ready. The decision to release the show in February makes sense, given that the writers, showrunners, and actors will need time to work on the new batch of episodes.

“Triumph Over Trauma” – Amidst a shifting political climate, Frank goes head-to-head with City Council Speaker Regina Thomas (Whoopi Goldberg) over protests against police brutality. Also, Jamie and his nephew, Joe Hill (Will Hochman), work together to locate Danny and Baez when they go missing while searching for a killer, and Eddie steps up to help an abrasive woman find her father’s body after it was misplaced during the outset of the pandemic, on the eleventh season premiere of, on BLUE BLOODS, Friday, Dec. 4 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. When is the Blue Bloods season 14 premiere date?

The bad news is that Deadline confirmed season 14 as the show’s last. Blue Bloods has been cancelled by NBC, and the season 14 finale will mark the finale for the show in its entirety. The downside, of course, is that there will be no more Blue Bloods after 2024. The upside, though, is that the show will be getting more episodes than most of its procedural TV peers.

The upcoming season will have 18 episodes, which is close to double the length of other scripted dramas. Most of the ABC releases for 2024, for example, will only have 10-13 episodes (a seminal show like Grey’s Anatomy will only have 10). Blue Bloods will fill its usual time slot of 10 p.m. on Friday nights, which means it will follow the return of other titles like S.W.A.T. (airing 8 p.m.) and Fire Country (airing 9 p.m.).

Generally speaking, production on Blue Bloods starts up during the summer, and a new season premieres in September. The writers and actors strike radically changed things, of course, and there was a period of time in which it looked like Blue Bloods wouldn’t be ready until the fall of 2024. That would have meant an entire year without new episodes, which would have been devastating given that season 14 is the last time fans will get to see these characters.

Kevin Wade, the Blue Bloods showrunner, promised to give fans a worthy send-off to all of the characters in a written statement. “We look forward to giving fans an exciting and emotionally satisfying final season”, he noted. “And we are forever grateful for their enthusiasm and their loyalty over all these years.”
