Chicago Med is off of life support. The medical drama was delayed for several months due to the writers and actors strike, but the resolution of both has allowed NBC to get the ball rolling on the ninth season. It’s clear the network has been doing what they can to prepare behind the scenes, because Med already has a proper set start date for production!

According to Reel Chicago, Chicago Med will start production on Wednesday, November 29, right after Thanksgiving. This is a startlingly quick turnaround for a show that previously looked as if it would have to wait until December or even January to get back on track.

When is the start date for Chicago Med season 9?

Med‘s start date will make it the last of the One Chicago shows to resume production. Chicago Fire and Chicago PD have confirmed that their respective crews will get to work on Monday, November 13 and production will officially start on Monday, November 27. Med, on the other hand, will have crew members working on Wednesday, November 15 to meet their November 29 start date.

It’s unclear why the two-day delay, but regardless, all three shows will be up and running by the end of the month. The window to turnaround episodes will be smaller than usual, but the network has already confirmed that each of the One Chicago shows will be releasing condensed seasons that span 10-13 episodes, instead of the usual 20.

A proper release date for Chicago Med has not yet been released, but the announcements made by other networks can help to give us a rough timespan to expect. CBS recently put out its plans for the winter season, and most of the scripted dramas that resemble Med are set to release the week of February 12. This includes franchises like NCIS and FBI, according to TV Insider.

Chicago Med is going to look different in 2024, due to the departure of several main characters like Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss). Little has been discussed regarding the introduction of new doctors, but we’re confident the show will find a way to keep things interesting.
