Yes, Taylor Kinney is returning to Chicago Fire ‘full-time’
Chicago Fire season 12 is going to start up production in November, which is a huge relief because we have tons of questions regarding the season 11 finale. There were tons of storylines that were left unresolved, with the most notable involving Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney).
The Chicago Fire veteran left during the second half of season 11, and despite the belief that he would return for the finale, the episode came and went and Severide was nowhere to be found. It became increasingly unclear as to whether Kinney would appear in season 12 at all, let alone play a major role. Then, the good news came through…
Is Taylor Kinney in Chicago Fire season 12?
Taylor Kinney has been confirmed to return for the upcoming season. While the actor has yet to speak on the matter (likely due to actors’ inability to discuss projects during the strike), the show announced that he would be coming back to Chicago during the first few episodes of the season. The Hollywood Reporter was unsure about whether Kinney (and by extension, Severide) would appear in the entire season, but an insider for Deadline claimed that he was indeed back for good.
This should come as no surprise, given how highly Kinney speaks of his role and Chicago Fire in general. During a 2022 interview with Us Weekly, the actor reflected on the show’s decade long reign atop the NBC ratings.
“The city has been good to me. I love the city. I’ve gotten to know it through my work”, he noted. “It’s never lost on me how special it is to be a part of something with the longevity this has. It’s a testament to [show creator] Dick Wolf and the team of people he puts together.”
There haven’t been any reports on how the writers plan to bring Severide’s character back, or how his marriage to Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) will shake out after a bumpy season 11 finale, but we’re thrilled to know that we will be seeing more of him in the future.
