Nicholas Gonzalez is NOT returning for The Good Doctor season 7

The Good Doctor season 7 is coming back in the new year, but will we see some returning faces? Will Nicholas Gonzalez return as Neil Melendez?

In some great news, we will see The Good Doctor season 7 happen. Despite the dual strikes throughout the summer, ABC has been able to set the return date. Get Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024 in your diary.

Yes, this is a different night. It’s not going to feel right, and the show is going up against CBS’s FBI franchise along with Will Trent and The Rookie. However, we’re here for the medical drama that has brought some important medical storylines to light.

Now our eyes are on who may or may not return to the series. What are the chances of us seeing Dr. Neil Melendez back in the hallways?

Will Nicholas Gonzalez return in The Good Doctor season 7?

Don’t expect to see Melendez back. Nicholas Gonzalez’s character was killed off in a shocking move at the end of the third season. He did appear at the start of season 4, but this was as Claire’s hallucination as she dealt with the grief of losing the man she loved.

With Claire no longer in the series, it’s unlikely that we’ll need to see Melendez again in the series as a hallucination for another character. That’s really the only way to bring him back.

If the writers really wanted to bring him back into the story, there would be the option to have Dr. Glassman see him. However, Glassman knows what’s going on with his head now, so it doesn’t make sense to have dead characters come back to the series.

On top of that, Gonzalez is busy with another series. He’s one of the core members of the La Brea cast. That series is coming to an end with season 3, but filming will take place at the same time as The Good Doctor season 6, so there won’t be the chance to see him return.
