Chicago Fire has started production on season 12, and the mood is already getting nostalgic. The firefighting drama will be saying goodbye to one of its main characters, Sylvie Brett, and the actor who plays her, Kara Killmer, is making every second on the set count.
She’s not only spending time with her One Chicago co-stars at local sporting events, as evidenced by her appearance on Marina Squerciati’s Instagram, but she’s bringing Brett’s bond with the rest of the 51 team full circle.
Kara Killmer slated to leave Chicago Fire in season 12
During the first day of shooting, Killmer posed for a photo with Miranda Rae Mayo and Hanako Greensmith, and one eagle-eyed Twitter user pointed out that it’s an exact recreation of a photo the trio took on the set in 2022.
We can’t fault the actress for being sentimental. Killmer has been part of Chicago Fire since season 3 which means she’s one of the few cast members to have lasted over a decade. She talked about the journey that her character has been on during this period during a 2020 interview with Tell Tale TV.
“One of the things that I really like about Sylvie is that she gets to go back and forth between being kind of silly and like, charmingly neurotic and adorkable with some of the comedic stuff, or even some of the relationship stuff,” the actress reasoned. She also went on to commend Brett’s ability to drop the silliness and get down to business when it matters most:
"“[She can switch] into like a high-functioning compartmentalized mode, the kind of mindset you have to be in if you’re in a job where, literally, lives are at stake. So that is just a lot of fun to get to play.”"
As far as her friendship with the rest of the Chicago Fire cast is concerned, Killmer made it clear that it will outlast her time on the show. She confirmed that everybody in the cast is “affectionate” with each other, and that their support is what makes getting through the often grueling shoots.
“In a weird way, I’ll say it has bonded us I think more, just because everyone’s looking around and feeling like we’re all supporting each other and trying to keep each other healthy,” Killmer told the outlet. “And we’re still just working so hard.”
