2024 is going to bring the end of many hit series including one of the most popular firefighter dramas on air which has been canceled ahead of its return.

After seven seasons, Station 19 will be coming to a close on ABC. ABC confirmed that the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff will be answering its final call in 2024 with what will be its final season on the network.

"“For seven seasons, Station 19 has been a highlight of the ABC lineup thanks to Shonda and Betsy’s incredible vision, beloved characters and compelling storytelling,” Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich said in a statement announcing the show’s cancellation. “With Zoanne [Clack] and Peter [Paigeat] the helm of the upcoming farewell season, we have so much to look forward to, most notably the celebration of the show’s milestone 100th episode.”"

Station 19 debuted in 2018 becoming the second Grey’s Anatomy spinoff to enter the mix on ABC. Unlike Private Practice which was a spinoff of Kate Walsh’s Grey’s Anatomy character Dr. Addison Montgomery and was also a medical drama, Station 19 marked an expansion of the Grey’s universe into a new direction as a firefighter drama.

Station 19 will end with a shortened season

With ABC announcing that Station 19 will be coming to an end with its upcoming seventh season, we know that season 7 will be the show’s last. Unfortunately, the season will also be the show’s shortest season ever with Station 19‘s final season consisting of just 10 episodes total.

This shortened episode count is a result of the 2023 actors’ and writers’ strikes which delayed production on the networks’ scripted fall series including Station 19. As filming was unable to begin during the summer as usual, ABC was forced to delay the show’s return.

Production officially began in early December on the final season which will premiere on March 14 at 10/9c behind the season 20 premiere of Grey’s Anatomy. With just ten episodes to work with, it’s going to be interesting to see how the creative team crafts the show’s sendoff but we do know the show should get a proper ending thanks to ABC announcing the cancelation at teh top of the season.

With ABC announcing season 7 will be its last ahead of the premiere, the writers have the chance to craft a final season that will tie up loose ends and end the series with a proper series finale.
