Will Estes is pulling out all the stops for his Blue Bloods character. The actor took to social media to confirm that he was already filming scenes for the upcoming final season, which makes sense given similar actions by co-star Donnie Wahlberg. What fans didn’t expect, however, was a radical change in Estes’ appearance.

As Jamie Reagan, the youngest of the show’s core siblings, Estes has spent over a decade sporting a clean-shaven, short haircut look. It made sense, especially when he had lower rank in the police department, and it’s something that was maintained well after he got promoted to sergeant.

Jamie Reagan has a beard and tattoos heading in Blue Bloods season 14

Well, all that has changed. Estes hopped on Instagram to share a video of himself in character, and he was not only sporting a beard, but several tattoos! It was Jamie Reagan like we have never seen him before, and it caught pretty much the entire comment section off guard.

Many of the comments were about Estes’ new look, and what it could mean for his character in the final season of Blue Bloods. There’s a decent chance the character could be placed undercover in season 14, which would explain the suddenly tougher appearance, or perhaps there was a huge amount of time that passed between seasons 13 and 14, and the character decided to change it up.

Estes has talked about his desire to take the character in new directions in the past. He even talked about changing Jamie’s appearance during a 2022 interview with Onedio. “I’m trying to figure out how I can get Jamie Reagan to wear his hair down but I don’t believe it’s happening anytime soon,” he revealed.

“Another Look” — Frank takes one of Jamie’s cases to heart when it involves the suspicious death of his friend’s, FBI Agent Wilson Ortega’s (Emiliano Diez), terminally ill wife. Also, after demanding more meaningful cases, Erin receives an unsolved robbery case that proves to be impossible to crack without help from Anthony, and Danny and Baez uncover the shocking truth behind a puzzling assault claim, on BLUE BLOODS, Friday, Oct. 18 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Estes went as far as to suggest that the show should attempt a musical episode with Jamie at the center:

"“I think [there] has to be [one]. There’re so many great songs,” he explained. “I think it would make for such a fun episode,’ he said. ‘And if we could pull it off, I don’t want to spoil too much, but if we could pull it off where it’s like the whole episode is a dream…a Blue Blood‘s dream. I’d love that.”"

While the chances of mounting a musical episode, in the show’s final season, are slim to none, it looks like Estes finally got his wish with regards to changing Jamie Reagan’s appearance. We’re excited to see how the change reflects the character’s attitude in 2024.
