It’s not often that a show eleven seasons into its run is able to make franchise history, but that’s about to happen for Chicago Med.
Over the course of Chicago Med’s eleven seasons, we’ve seen most characters cross paths at least a few times. Sometimes these interactions are limited as there are certain characters who naturally don’t tend to interact as much given their ongoing storylines and positions at Gaffney, but it’s rare for characters to never cross paths. Somehow, though, this has been the case for three longtime Chicago Med characters who will finally cross paths for the first time in an upcoming season 11 episode.
“After nearly 11 seasons, Dr. Marty finally crosses paths with two of Chicago Med’s finest,” Jeremy Shouldis revealed. “So nice to officially meet and work with Lorena Diaz and Lynnette Li! So blessed to be a part of this crew!”
The announcement came with a pair of fun behind-the-scenes photos from the Chicago Med set to mark the occasion, which has somehow taken eleven seasons to happen!
While Lynnette Li did not join the show as Nurse Nancy until season 6, both Shouldis and Lorena Diaz have been a part of the Chicago Med ensemble since the very first season. Shouldis plays Dr. Martin “Marty” Peterson, an anesthesiologist at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, while Diaz plays longtime nurse Doris.
Despite having appeared on the show since season 1, the characters have never crossed paths which is absolutely wild, yet somehow not entirely surprising. Nurse Nancy and Doris typically work exclusively out of the Gaffney ED, working with the doctors who treat patients in the ED. As Dr. Marty is an anesthesiologist, he’s not among the doctors who frequent the ED and typically is relegated to scenes involving the operating room when surgeries are being performed.
With that in mind, it’s going to be really interesting to see how these characters finally come to cross paths! It’s also going to be really fun to see how they interact when the moment finally comes for the longtime members of the Gaffney team to crossover in a way the show’s storylines have never allowed for in the past.
Is Dr. Marty about to enter the ED to assist with an urgent matter, or might Doris or Nancy be tapped to help with a procedure where additioanl support from the nursing staff is needed? Or perhaps the scene will simply come via them crossing paths in the breakroom for a fun conversation. Regardless of what the writers have planned, it's going to be fun seeing these longtime characters share the screen for the first time together!
We don’t know when the trio’s crossover moment will happen, but it’s a fun milestone for Chicago Med fans to look forward to as season 11 resumes beginning with the One Chicago crossover on March 4!
