3 great shows like Chicago PD to watch (that aren't One Chicago shows)

There are lots of terrific procedurals on the air right now.

If you like police procedurals, then you already know that Chicago PD is a longtime staple for must watch viewing. This show brings the drama, the relationships and the crime. It knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat, while also offering some lighter moments when needed.

The fact that Chicago PD also has sister shows as part of the One Chicago lineup also helps to give the series another layer of development and entertainment that is hard to resist. We know that there are so many opportunities to elevate the show and shake things up as needed.

But if you are anything like us and are all caught up on Chicago PD and the rest of the One Chicago shows, you might be looking for something else to watch. And if you are specifically looking for something that gives you those police procedural vibes, then we have three shows you may want to check out.

3 shows similar to Chicago PD to watch if you are all caught up and looking for a new binge watch

Will Trent

ERIKA CHRISTENSEN, GINA RODRIGUEZ, RAMÓN RODRIGUEZ, BLUEBELL, SONJA SOHN, JAKE MCLAUGHLIN, IANTHA RICHARDSON
WILL TRENT - ABC's “Will Trent“ stars Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Gina Rodriguez as Marion Alba, Ramón Rodriguez as Will Trent, Bluebell as Betty, Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner, Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood, and Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell. (Disney/Nino Muñoz)

Will Trent on ABC is one of my favorite shows on TV right now. This series features both police and GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigations) agents, plenty of relationship drama, and a dog! It basically has it all and then some. Yes we have plenty of police and detective work, but we also get to know these characters outside of work as well. And that is what makes this show so entertaining.

The series is currently on its third season, and at this point it just keeps getting better. And if you really want to dive into the series and you have some time on your hands, you can always check out the book series that the show is based on.

The Rookie

Another ABC series, The Rookie is currently on its seventh season, and this show has had its own spin-off and given us plenty of drama and tension. The cast is brilliant, the storylines remind us that there is life outside of work, but also that what happens at home can follow us to work. Honestly, this is one of those police procedural shows that really keeps you coming back for more, and yet it also gives you moments of humor that allow you to take a breather from the rougher stuff.

The way this series starts gives us a fascinating look at what starting over can look like, while also following people through their career in a way that can be unexpected. There are moments throughout this series where you simply don't know what will happen next, because police work is not safe or easy, especially in a city like L.A.

Found

Found - Season 2

Much like Chicago PD, Found is also an NBC series. It also features a slightly questionable lead similar to PD's Voight. The thing about this series is it focuses on finding missing people, and our leading lady was actually a victim of a kidnapping as a child. So what does she do to help others? She gets into the minds of criminals, including holding her own kidnapped hostage.

This series is definitely fascinating to watch, both because of the darker edge to the storyline, but also the fact that the characters are so well crafted. This is definitely a series that comes with trigger warnings in its own right, but the show works as a police procedural because of how hard it goes to tell a story.

No two police procedurals will be the exact same, but if you enjoy the detective work, cases and interpersonal relationships that have made Chicago PD so popular, then these three shows definitely have a lot to offer. And of course, the fact that the storylines are all solid, with excellent casts certainly helps. (And if you happen to watch both Found and Will Trent, you might just notice a familiar face in both shows.)

There is a lot of TV to choose from on any given network, at any given time. So having some ideas of shows you might enjoy can make your next binge watch a lot more entertaining. So here's hoping Found, Will Trent and The Rookie are exactly what you need to get that police procedural fix.
