9-1-1 has been on the air long enough that fans have been able to look back and get nostalgic. 9-1-1: Lone Star may be over, but the flagship show in the franchise is still going strong, which fans the time to pick apart different eras and compare/contrast.
One thing fans inevitably do in debate whether a show would be better if a particular character from a spinoff was still around, or if said character suddenly made a transition to the flagship show. Well, 9-1-1 showrunner Tim Minear recently talked about the possibility of one character's return during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Tim Minear wants to work with Gina Torres again

Minear, unprompted, made it clear that he wanted to work with Lone Star actress Gina Torres again soon as possible. "I adore Gina Torres, and will hopefully work with her again soon," he said, before zooming out and expressing the difficulty of having to axe multiple spinoff characters, especially since a new spinoff set in Nashville is around the corner.
"It's not trying to be the same show as 9-1-1, just like Nashville is not going to try to be Lone Star," Minear explained. "It was tough to say goodbye to those characters. I loved that cast. I loved those characters." There's definitely a world in which Torres' Tommy Vega resurfaces in Nasvhille, perhaps even in a cameo capacity.
She admittedly went through a lot during the final stretch of 9-1-1: Lone Star. The character was diagnosed with breast cancer, and prepared to live out the final days of her life, only to learn in the show's eleventh's hour that her tumors had decreased, and that she would have a fighting chance. It was a lot to play, but it was partially why Torres had such a satisfying time playing her.
Torres considers Tommy Vega a favorite character

"What I love about Tommy and this character is the honesty with which we portrayed that," she told Hollywood Reporter in reference to Vega's bravery. "Life has a fluidity to it, and sometimes things take a bigger priority... You meet life on life’s terms, I loved being able to do that with Tommy Vega." It's not outrageous to consider Vega returning, especially given that she has already made a cameo in the flagship show.
There's been very little information about 9-1-1: Nashville released yet, which means the characters who comprise the main cast is still a secret. Hopefully we get a chance to see a familiar face or two, even if it's for a brief period.
