9-1-1 fans were dealt a heavy blow when Lone Star, the franchise's first spinoff, was cancelled. It was sad to see the show get axed, but co-creator Ryan Murphy assured us that another show was around the corner. A second spinoff, set in a different American city.

Well, Murphy made good on his word. Deadline has confirmed that ABC will be moving forward with a new 9-1-1 spinoff in Nashville. Fittingly titled 9-1-1: Nashville, the spinoff will be produced and written by Tim Minear and the aforementioned Murphy. It will also be executive produced by Angela Bassett, who stars in and produces the flagship 9-1-1 show.

9-1-1's latest show will be set in Nashville

Nashville was selected as the new 9-1-1 location after a lengthy process. The outlet reports that the producers originally considered setting the spinoff in Las Vegas. They then moved over to Hawaii, but the cost of filming in the Aloha State proved to be too high. Plus, NCIS had recently pulled the plug on their own Hawaii spinoff.

Nashville is different enough from Los Angeles and Texas, plus Deadline alludes to a tax credit being offered to ABC for shooting there. Wins across the board. The notion of a third 9-1-1 show is thrilling, given how many characters there are in the franchise, and how many opportunities there are for huge crossovers.

9-1-1: Lone Star may have recently ended, but star Rob Lowe admitted that he would be willing to return to the franchise if the circumstances were right. "Listen, I never say never to anything. It's a character that means a lot to me," he explained to People. "I have such respect and admiration for first responders. It's an honor whenever I can bring their stories to the screen, so you never know."

Likewise, Lone Star showrunner Rashad Raisani said that he would be thrilled to see characters he helped create live on in different spinoffs and/or crossovers. "There’d be nothing better than to have to revisit these characters," Raisani told Deadline. "In whatever context where they go to one of these cities or whether that city comes to them or LA, whatever it is."

There's also Angela Bassett, who has starred on the main 9-1-1 for several seasons, and will serve as a producer on Nashville. It's a very real possibility that we will get a chance to see her character make an appearance at some point down the line. Especially since both 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Nashville are part of ABC. Are you as excited as we are?
