9-1-1 fans are still mourning the end of Lone Star, but there is plenty reason to be excited about the future of the franchise. The flagship show is still going strong, and now, plans for a second spinoff in Nashville are underway. The spinoff will premiere during the 2025-26 season, and if we're basing our excitement solely on the cast, this will be one of the best shows of the fall.

Deadline confirmed that 9-1-1: Nashville has added Jessica Capshaw to its main cast. Capshaw is best known to television fans as Arizona Robbins, the doctor she played on nine seasons of Grey's Anatomy. The actress knows her way around a procedural drama, as evidenced by her long tenure with Grey's, and we're eager to see what she brings to the table as a radically different character.

Jessica Capshaw will play Mrs. Sharpe

Capshaw's 9-1-1: Nashville character doesn't have a name, but she has a heck of a backstory. The outlet confirmed that she will be playing the wife of Don Sharpe, the rugged fire captain who will be played by Chris O'Donnell. Capshaw will also be the mother of Ryan, who Deadline described as the main character of the spinoff. The role has yet to be cast, however.

Capshaw and O'Donnell have bound proven their merit in the procedural TV world. The latter revived his career as Callum, the co-lead of NCIS: Los Angeles for 14 seasons. Capshaw, meanwhile, had an impressive resume even before she joined the cast of Grey's Anatomy in 2009. She is the product of a famed Hollywood family, between her actress mother Kate Capshaw and her stepfather, legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg.

Capshaw has starred in multiple TV dramas

The actress made her small screen debut in a 1999 episode of ER before scoring main roles on the sitcom Odd Man Out (2000-01) and the legal drama The Practice (2002-04). Capshaw has proven to be adept at every kind of genre, between these standout roles and memorable appearances in shows like How I Met Your Mother, Bones and The L Word. Capshaw also had a cameo in her stepdad's 2002 blockbuster Minority Report opposite Tom Cruise.

The details surrounding 9-1-1: Nashville remain vague, outside of the setting and the characters played by Capshaw and O'Donnell. We do, however, know that it will not be introduced via backdoor pilot, like so many other spinoffs. It will be established in a standalone pilot, according to franchise co-creator Tim Minear.

The co-creator also told TV Line that "music" will be playing a bigger role in Nashville than any of its 9-1-1 peers. Given Nashville's reputation as "Music City," this creative decision makes a lot of sense. We're ready!
