In the midseason premiere of 911 season 8, fans' fears came to fruition as it was confirmed that Eddie is indeed following through on his plan to leave Los Angeles behind in order to move to Texas to be closer to his son, Christopher.
It was a storyline first teased before the show’s winter break as Eddie struggled with the growing separation between him and Christopher after Christopher moved to Texas to live with his grandparents. While Eddie tried his best to give him space, he finally came to the realization that he needed to make a change in order to repair their relationship. To do so, this meant no longer trying to parent virtually which meant moving to Texas.
Episode 9 saw Eddie following through with his plan as he bought a home in Texas and took the final steps needed to leave LA to make his way to Texas to be with Christopher. The moment is one that left fans anxious about Ryan Guzman’s future on the show and while Eddie is leaving town, the good news is that Guzman is not leaving the show.
Ryan Guzman is not leaving 911 (at least not at the moment)
While it’s understandable for fans to worry that Ryan Guzman might be leaving 911 following Eddie’s move to Texas, it seems that Guzman will remain a part of the cast, at least for now, with the show planning on giving fans glimpses of his time in Texas working to repair his relationship with Christopher.
As showrunner Tim Minear told ScreenRant fans will get to see the Christopher and Eddie storyline in Texas unfold onscreen. This was a sentiment that was shared by Guzman who revealed to Parade that Eddie will be spending time in Texas for a bit now, suggesting that this isn’t going to be a quickly resolved storyline.
“I'll be in Texas for a bit. How or when or if I get back to L.A. is to be determined right now. But I know the bulk of my storyline is getting back into the swing of Texas, trying to establish any kind of job in Texas, and then again, reconnect with my son. Those are big enough tasks as is, and the 118 will be just fine without Eddie for now,” Guzman teased.
It’s clear that Guzman will remain on the show and we’ll continue to see Eddie in the weeks ahead. What is going to be interesting is to see how many episodes he appears in and just how much screen time the stories might have in the episodes ahead. We’re also hoping that we’ll see Eddie keeping in touch with Buck and the 118 team remotely via calls.
What we’re really eager to see is how long Eddie might remain in Texas and whether he’ll eventually come back to LA or if he could end up deciding to stay put in Texas. Knowing that he literally bought a house in Texas, we imagine this isn’t going to be some short one or two-episode arc for Eddie, but we truly hope it doesn’t turn into a possible exit storyline in the end as we’d hate to lose Eddie and Christopher from the show’s main ensemble!
