When 911 season 9 premieres, things will look different in the wake of the loss of Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) in season 8. Now there has been a glimpse into how the remaining firefighters at the 118 honor their fallen hero.

Entertainment Weekly shared a still from the season 9 premiere that showed a plaque being displayed in the firehouse. None of the other cast members appear in the photo, but it’s clear this will likely be an unveiling of the station’s new name in the show itself.

While there is no confirmation of what episode 1’s synopsis will entail, opening with a tribute to Bobby would be fitting considering how season 8 ended.

Showrunner Tim Minear discussed the importance of making sure they didn’t “disrespect Bobby’s sacrifice” while also ensuring his legacy would be present in the firehouse.

The new name of the firehouse will be “Los Angeles Fire Department Captain Robert W. Nash Memorial Station 118.” This will be a fitting tribute to Bobby, who arrived at the station in 2017 and helped turn it into the close-knit family the fans know and love.

The plaque included the words, “Gave his life while on duty proudly serving the citizens of Los Angeles.”

This is something that has been done in real life for fallen firefighters, as Minear explained to Entertainment Weekly. He said the decision to rename the station was in “the idea that this will always be ‘Bobby’s House.’”

When 911 season 9 premieres, the team will not have a captain, with Interim Captain Vincent Gerrard leaving to go back to the “Hotshots” set. However, the season 8 finale hinted that it would likely be Howie “Chimney” Han (Kenneth Choi) taking over the reins. This was also a surprising decision, given Bobby had been priming Hen Wilson (Aisha Hinds) to take over.

However, season 9 could also allow Chimney to learn how to see himself as a competent leader, while also helping the rest of the 118 mourn and move forward in the wake of Bobby’s death.

We will also see Bobby’s wife, Athena Grant-Nash (Angela Bassett) continue to work in an attempt to keep herself from lingering on her devastating loss. Plus, she will likely continue to lean on her children, May (Corinne Massiah) and Harry (Elijah M. Cooper), who we will see more of since both actors were upgraded to series regulars for season 9.

911 season 9 premieres on Thursday, October 9 at 8/7c.
