911 is known for its wild emergencies and from the looks of things, those aren’t ending anytime soon. A new, longer trailer for the show was released that showed Henrietta “Hen” Wilson (Aisha Hinds) and Athena Grant-Nash (Angela Bassett) in a perilous situation.
Before this trailer, a shorter promo that looked like something out of CGI showed the other main characters sans Hen and Athena looking up at the sky in confusion and terror. What looked like meteors were crashing down towards earth, leading to audiences wondering what was happening. Fans also wondered where the paramedic and newly widowed police sergeant were and it appears we have a possible answer.
The trailer first showed all of the previous opening emergencies in the show’s history, from the tsunami in season 3 all the way to the bee emergency in season 8. Then we saw Athena being strapped in while wearing a body suit before walking down a corridor with Hen.
How is it possible for Hen and Athena to be in space on 911?
At the end of the trailer, it appears that the two of them become stuck in this rocket and are trapped. But is all what it seems?
It is always possible that Hen and Athena do go to space, although there is speculation they could be in a simulator and it only looks like they are in space. Hen’s wife, Karen (Tracie Thoms), wanted to be an astronaut before she married Hen, so this is a surprising development if it turns out Hen gets to go instead.
The team will be rescuing a man played by Mark Consuelos, and who has been described as a Musk-like billionaire. It is possible after being rescued he offers to take them into space, something that Hen and Athena could be preparing for as disaster strikes.
Is this one of those jump the shark moments for 911? While it is possible, we do know that over the summer of 2025, an all female celebrity crew, including Katy Perry, went up in a rocket for a short time, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that Hen and Athena have a chance to go up in a rocket.
Considering Athena landed an airplane with the help of a child in the season 8 opening disaster, this isn’t that surprising. However, we will have to see in just mere weeks whether they are actually in space or if another twist is coming. Knowing this show, anything is possible.
The three-part premiere will begin airing with the season 9 opener on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 8/7c on ABC. You can watch the newest episode the next day on Hulu.
