A new episode of Chicago Fire isn't on NBC tonight (but there is good news)

In some bad news, Chicago Fire is now on its winter break. We do know when the series will return in 2025, though!

With the way things ended in the previous episode of Chicago Fire, you’re sure to want a new episode right now. This is where we have some bad news. There isn’t a new episode on tonight, Wednesday, Nov. 27.

We usually find that the Wednesday before Thanksgiving is a night off new episodes of One Chicago shows. In some previous years, NBC has brought the three shows back the week after for fall finales. That’s changed this year, though. There isn’t another new episode of Chicago Fire, or the other two shows, in 2024.

The Chicago Fire season 13 winter break has started early

Before the pandemic, NBC would opt for the Wednesday before Thanksgiving for fall finales. It looks like NBC has brought that back for the 2024–2025 TV schedule. The Chicago Fire season 13 fall finale aired last Wednesday, Nov. 20.

That means we have no more new episodes until 2025. The good news is NBC is also back to normal with January return dates. We’ll get a new episode of Chicago Fire on Wednesday, Jan. 8. The episode will air at 9 p.m. ET/PT, as usual.

There may be some reruns coming, but that’s not happening tonight. NBC has a Thanksgiving special of SNL. This is standard for this time of year.

What to expect when Chicago Fire returns?

We have a small look at what to expect when the show returns. It looks like there will be a big fire that has Squad 3 rushing in to save people’s lives. We do know that Taylor Kinney will be back for the winter premiere, but it looks like Miranda Rae Mayo will be missing for the episode. This is linked to NBC needing to keep the costs down for the episodes, which means we’re not seeing all actors in all episodes.

One of the storylines we’ll need to see covered in the winter premiere is Cruz’s current storyline. Flaco’s name came up in conversation as Cruz got a visit from someone while in church. That someone claims to be the cousin of Flaco.

Don’t worry if you can’t remember who Flaco is. We’ve got you covered, as this is from a season 1 storyline. It’s been some time! We had wondered if Cruz’s story would end up linked to Leon and the gang life from the early seasons, and it looks like that is the case after all!

Chicago Fire returns on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 9/8c on NBC. Catch up on the series with Peacock.
