Are Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD on NBC tonight?
The One Chicago franchise has really planted its flag on Wednesday nights. The franchise has been filling the primetime evening block for over ten years, and does not show any signs of slowing down. Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD were missing in action during the last week of November, which has led many fans to question when they will be returning with new episodes.
Unfortunately, the answer is not anytime soon. There are no new episodes of Med, Fire or PD on Wednesday, December 4. In fact, there won't be new episodes for over a month. The franchise is taking the duration of December off, and will be returning on Wednesday, January 8.
One Chicago will return on Wednesday, January 8
This is nothing new as far as procedural dramas are concerned. One Chicago, as well as Law & Order, have made a habit of taking the holidays off, so that cast and crew can regroup for the new year. The bad news is that fans will have to wait longer than they expected for the resolutions to the midseason cliffhangers dished out by all three shows.
The good news is that the franchise is back on track after a hectic holiday rollout in 2023. The actors and writers strike caused delays and production complications, and One Chicago seasons were cut short as a result. The 11th season of Chicago Fire, for example, wrapped in May 2023, but the strike made it so that the 12th season didn't premiere until January. That's a long time to wait and find out what happens to your favorite character.
Chicago Med and Fire ended on mid-season cliffhangers
By comparison, the wait for the upcoming winter premieres are not that severe. Plus, there are lots of exciting storylines to follow through on. Chicago Med is balancing the uncertainty of Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber) and his future on the show with Dr. Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) and the fallout of her near fatal stabbing.
Chicago PD will see the IU attempt to move forward, despite the fact that deputy chief Reid (Shawn Hatosy) may be using his knowledge of the Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) scandal to blackmail the team into doing his biding. Then, of course, there's Chicago Fire, and the precarious situation with Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) and the cousin of a man he let die way back in season 1.
