Chicago Fire has cycled through multiple actors over the years. There are a lot of members of the family, which should come as no surprise given that the show has been on the air for 13 seasons. Unfortunately, one such alum run afoul of the law on Saturday, March 29.

Kim Delaney has been arrested and charged with felony assault. TMZ reports that the actress was taken into custody by LAPD following a domestic dispute with her partner, James Morgan. She was charged with felony assault likely to cause great bodily injury. Morgan, meanwhile, was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence. The actress was booked by the LAPD late Saturday morning, and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, April 2.

Kim Delaney plays Severide's mother

Delaney has a stellar resume when it comes to procedural television, in particular. She appeared in several notable shows during the 1980s, including L.A. Law and All My Children, but the actress hit a new level of fame when she secured a starring role on NYPD Blue in 1995. She appeared on the show until 2003, and won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress In a Drama Series.

Delaney also had stints on CSI: Miami, The O.C. and Murder In the First. Her tenure on Chicago Fire, which kicked off in 2018, has been brief but notable. She plays Jennifer Sheridan, the mother of Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney). The two characters have always had a tense relationship, but part of what makes their scenes together so compelling is their shared desire to connect.

Delaney's last Chicago Fire appearance to date was in the season 10 episode "The Magnificent City of Chicago." There's been little mention of her character since, but given the developments in Kelly Severide's family, including an adoption and the introduction of a half-sibling, there's a chance that Jennifer could make a return.

The Saturday incident is not the first time Kim Delaney has had issues with the LAPD. She was pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving back in 2002. The actress refused to take a breathalyzer test, and she pleaded no contest. Kim Delaney was eventually fined and sentenced to two years' probation. She was also forced to take a defensive driving course.

In 2005, People confirmed that Delaney lost custody of her son following an incident in which she drove him while intoxicated. The actress' son, who was 15 years old at the time, testified that this was not the first time she had put his life in danger. Delaney currently stars on the Daytime soap General Hospital.
