We're on the cusp of saying goodbye. Blue Bloods has one more episode to gift to viewers before going off the air for good. It's strange to think of a CBS lineup without the show, given that it's been holding down the fort on Thursday nights for a decade and a half.

There's going to be plenty going on in the season finale, including a funeral, a few tense decisions to be made on the part of Chief Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck), and resolutions to character arcs that have been teased throughout season 14. The big thing everybody is curious about, though, is the family dinner.

Reagan family members will return for the finale

"Fog of War" -- Danny and Baez work with Texas Ranger Waylon Gates (Lyle Lovett) when they are put on a case to find the Lone Star Killer. Also, after Eddie's partner, Officer James Addison (Justin Cunningham), mistakenly shoots an undercover cop, internal affairs accuses Jamie of not supervising properly, and Frank speaks with Officer Addison about why he shouldn't turn in his shield, on BLUE BLOODS, Friday, Feb. 14 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. The Reagan family dinner is the signature set piece of the show, and there is a lot of pressure on the cast and crew to stick the landing with the last one. Fortunately, the series finale will have a few aces up its sleeve. Showrunner and executive producer Kevin Wade recently spoke about the upcoming dinner scene, and confirmed that there will be more people sitting at the table than usual.

In other words, the finale is going to bring back characters that fans haven't gotten to see in years. If ever there was a time, it would be now, and Wade is making sure that the Reagan family, the overriding focus of the show, will be stronger as a unit than ever.

"There are a few black sheep, including one who’s been with us on and off for many years," Wade told TV Insider. "I have to be vague here. There are blood relatives who we haven’t seen much of in a while who are present." Wade avoided mentioning who, of course, but the show was able to bring so many family members back that the Reagan table had to literally be extended.

The Reagan family table actually had to be extended

Family Matters
“Family Matters” – Danny and Baez investigate a case of grand larceny tied to feuding crime families when the gifts are stolen during a mob wedding. Also, Frank clashes with Mayor Chase (Dylan Walsh) when an influx of immigrants arrive in the city; Erin questions whether her district attorney campaign is compromising her day job; and Eddie enlists Jamie’s help to bust a drug dealer responsible for fentanyl overdoses in order to comfort a grieving grandfather (Larry Manetti), on BLUE BLOODS, /

"I will say it’s a bigger table than usual," the showrunner quipped. "The art department had to actually go into the wood shop and make an extra leaf!" There are lots of candidates for which Reagan family members will show up, from Erin's sporadically present daughter to Joseph Hill (Will Hochman), who has become an increasingly prominent family member since his introduction in season 10.

Wade told fans that the theme of family, which has been so prevalent throughout the show, will be the ultimate focus of the Blue Bloods finale. "I think there’s a satisfying ending for all the Reagans," Wade noted. "It’s a family individually and collectively who deal with loss and loneliness."

Since fans around the world will be contending with the loss of this show, it's a nice reminder that we have one last sit at the dinner table with the Reagans. Blue Bloods series finale airs December 13 on CBS.
