At least one Reagan family member will appear on Donnie Wahlberg’s Boston Blue, but the actor will appear different than expected. The role of Danny Reagan’s son, Sean, has been recast. Find out what we know so far about the new actor and how Sean also made his way to Boston alongside his dad.
According to Deadline, creative decisions were involved when it came to casting a new actor i the role of Sean Reagan, which was played by actor Andrew Terraciano for Blue Bloods' 14-season run. Sean will join his father in Boston, where he is also planning to start a career in law enforcement like his family.
Sean decided to move to Boston to begin his career as a patrolman with the Boston PD. He wanted to be able to start his career without the Reagan name following him in New York. Danny’s own move to Boston will also allow him to have a connection with his family outside of the new characters we will be introduced to when the show premieres.

The new series will follow Danny as he joins the Boston PD as a detective alongside Sonequa Martin-Green’s Lena Silver. Silver also has a family with a background in law enforcement, which is something she will have in common with her new partner. Other stars announced include Maggie Lawson, Ernie Hudson, Gloria Reuben, and Marcus Scribner.
Actor Mika Amonsen will portray Sean in Boston Blue. He has acting credits for the horror film Thanksgiving and he appeared on Reacher, which is on Prime Video.
So far, this is the only cast announcement that has been announced for anyone in the Reagan family, or any of the regular stars that we have come to know over the years on the original series.
Sean’s brother, Jack, previously portrayed by Tony Terraciano, had gone off to college to explain Terraciano’s absence on Blue Bloods. He had decided to leave acting to pursue a career in medicine. There is a possibility his role could also be recast, and we’ll see Jack as well. We’re sure to get more updates as the show begins production.
Boston Blue is scheduled to air on the CBS Friday 10 pm timeslot, which is where its predecessor resided before the end of the series. In the meantime, you can watch Blue Bloods on Paramount+ if you want to catch up before the premiere of Boston Blue.
