Wolf helps a man who has gone colorblind in Brilliant Minds season 1, episode 9 (Preview)
When we have a passion for something, a change in circumstance can cause us to lose it all. That’s what has happened in Brilliant Minds season 1, episode 9.
Beethoven is known for the composer who was deaf. He didn’t start his life deaf. He lost his hearing as he aged, but he didn’t allow that from following his passion and his dream. The benefit was that he knew how sounds should have been heard, although you can hear a difference in his music from when he could hear to when he couldn’t.
Not everyone is able to keep going after they lose an ability. That’s the case in the new episode of Brilliant Minds. Dr. Wolf needs to get to the bottom of why an artist has gone colorblind.
An artist loses his ability to see the world in color in Brilliant Minds season 1, episode 9
Colorblindness can show in various forms. For some, it’s an inability to tell between shades and some similar colors. For others, it’s the inability to tell the difference between red and green. However, Gabriel Ferguson in Brilliant Minds has gone from seeing a vivid world of color to only seeing in black and white.
Wolf learns about Gabriel when the man refuses to paint for an upcoming exhibit. Why paint when he can’t tell which color he is using? This isn’t like music where the keys on a piano are still the same. Gabriel would need to know which color he was starting with, and then he would have to pretty much paint blind.
Wolf and his interns will need to get to the bottom of the reason for the colorblindness. Is this an issue with the eyes or the brain?
The synopsis also tells us that we’ll get to see more of Dr. Pierce. In the previous episode, we found out that her patient was actually her husband’s mistress. She didn’t want to see the patient anymore, but this patient made it clear that she needed Pierce. Now Pierce is struggling with what to do, but it seems like she’s decided to keep the case.
This could be the patient that the synopsis refers to in this new episode. I can imagine just how Pierce must be feeling, but I can’t understand how she can stand to be in the same room as this woman. Yes, Pierce’s husband is to blame, but I also judge a woman for a lack of morals—it would be the same the other way around, by the way!

We have a great selection of images from the episode, and there are some interesting ones of a teenage Wolf (I love that the caption of the images say “Teen Wolf”) in black and white. It looks like Wolf will take a look back at his life in black and white as well as giving us a look at the life of Gabriel without color.
There are also some images of the interns trying to work through the case. I’m intrigued at how things will play out now that Ericka and Van have slept together. How long will it take for Van to pick up on any potential feelings of regret or question from Ericka?
Brilliant Minds airs Mondays at 10/9c on NBC. Catch up the following day on Peacock.
