News has come out about the upcoming SWAT spinoff led by Shemar Moore. After CBS cancelled the series after eight seasons, Moore announced a spinoff that would focus on new recruits. However, we know at least two of his former costars will appear on SWAT: Exiles.

Variety reported that Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit would make an appearance in the pilot episode as their characters Sergeant David “Deacon” Kay and Commander Robert Hicks, respectively.

The 10-episode series still does not have a network or streaming home, but Sony Pictures Television is hard at work bringing the series to life. Plus, the entire crew from the original show will still be employed and working together on the spinoff once it begins production in September.

The series will see Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson coming back to work after forced retirement following a mission that went wrong. He will be in charge of leading “a last-chance experimental SWAT unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits.”

Moore raised eyebrows when he announced the new spinoff, especially since it seemed like the rest of his co-stars would not be part of it. However, it does look like fans will get to see some familiar faces in the first episode. Whether this means there will be more familiar faces throughout the series is unknown.

In addition to this announcement, it was also revealed who else will be joining as the recruits. Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares, and Ronan Rubinstein have been announced in series regulars roles for the spinoff, likely playing the recruits who will join Hondo’s team.

Barrett is known for Charmed, Rubinstein for 9-1-1: Lone Star, Bradley for Tarot, Gorecki for La Brea, and Miyares for When They See Us.

These are the only casting announcements that we have for the series, and hopefully, there is a chance we will see some of the other characters appear from the original series. For now, we will keep you updated as we learn more about when to expect the show to air and where its new home will be.

SWAT aired for six seasons on CBS before being cancelled unexpectedly. However, fan uproar and Moore’s desire to keep the show afloat led to the show’s return for Season 7, which was supposed to be its last. But then the show got another reprieve for Season 8.
