If Will Halstead’s recent return in Chicago Med season 11 left you wanting more of Nick Gehlfuss on your small screen, you’re in luck! While we’re not expecting to see Halstead back in the eleventh season of Chicago Med, fans can look forward to Gehlfuss returning to primetime next year in a brand new series from Wolf Entertainment.
Gehlfuss is set to star opposite Tom Ellis in CBS’s new FBI spinoff, CIA, which will be coming to CBS in early 2026. The series was originally slated to premiere as part of CBS’s fall lineup, but was pushed to midseason due to creative struggles. Fans have been eagerly waiting to find out when exactly in early 2026 the season would arrive and we now know CIA will premiere on Monday, February 23 at 10/9c following the winter premiere of FBI season 8 at 9/8c.
Little is known about the series premiere premise, but CBS has released a bit of information on the show including updated character names for Ellis and Gehlfuss’s characters.
Gehlfuss is set to star as Bill Goodman, a by-the-book, seasoned and smart FBI agent who believes in the rule of law. He’s partnered with Colin Glass, a fast-talking, rule-breaking loose cannon CIA agent, played by Ellis. The odd couple pairing will work outside the CIA’s New York office, which will make it incredibly easy for crossovers with the New York-set FBI, to investigate cases posing a threat on U.S. soil.

In addition to new information about the show, we’ve also been given our first look at Ellis and Gehlfuss in CIA via a new promo image released for the show. The image gives us a glimpse at Agents Glass and Goodman, who are seen shaking hands outside a building. It doesn’t offer up much in the way of spoilers, but the wardrobe of the two characters sets the tone with Gehlfuss donning an FBI vest and button-down shirt, while Ellis’s character is dressed in more casual attire matching his rule-breaking nature.
After the https://onechicagocenter.com/fbi-spin-off-series-loses-star-just-weeks-filming-show, it’s nice to know the show is still on track to premiere in early 2026.
The season premiere date comes on the heels of Michael Michele exiting the show as a series regular just weeks into production, the departure of Eriq La Salle shortly after as a director on the show, and then the departure of Chicago Fire co-creator Warren Leight as showrunner resulting in the show temporarily pausing on production.
It’s unclear when production will resume or who will fill the voids left by the three exits, but clearly CBS feels confident in the show and its far enough along in production for it to arrive in February!
