After stepping away from Chicago Fire in 2024, Kara Killmer is finally returning to acting with her new project since exiting the One Chicago franchise.
Killmer will costar alongside Riverdale star KJ Apa in the new James Stewart biopic, Jimmy, which will follow the life of the late actor and decorated military pilot. In the film, Killmer will play a character named Lady Julia, a character who seems to be a singer who will likely cross paths with Stewart during his time in the service.
Fans get a brief glimpse of Killmer’s character in the newly released trailer for the film. In the trailer, we see Lady Julia on stage performing for servicemen during the war, which will allow Killmer to show off her singing skills on-screen, which is sure to be a real treat for fans. Another brief shot from the trailer shows Julia and Stewart embracing one another outside next to a military plane, suggesting her character will be a romantic interest for Apa's character.
Interestingly, Stewart was never connected to a woman named Julia during his life, so it’s unclear whether the character is a fictional character or simply based on someone from Stewart’s life with the film changing the person’s name.
Jimmy will open in theaters on November 6, 2026, so we should begin learning more about the film and Killmer’s role next year as the promotional campaign launches for the film. The role is Killmer’s first since exiting Chicago Fire early in season 12.
After joining the cast as paramedic Sylvie Brett in the third season of Chicago Fire, Killmer made the decision to take a step back from the series ahead of the show’s twelfth season. Thankfully, Killmer gave the writers ample time to craft an exit story for her character which came in the sixth episode of season 12.
In the episode, Brett married Matt Casey in a small wedding surrounded by their friends and family. After exchanging I Do’s, Brett moved to Portland, Oregon, to begin their life together as a family with Brett’s adopted daughter Julia and Casey’s foster sons, Griffin and Ben Darden. While Casey has returned to the show since the episode, we’ve not seen Brett back in Chicago since Killmer’s exit, though her character has come up in conversation on occasion.
It’s unclear when we might see Killmer drop by 51 for a surprise visit, but fans can look forward to seeing Killmer on the big-screen next year when Jimmy hits theaters on November 6, 2026!
