There has been a lot going on in the last few episodes of Chicago Fire season 14, and that might be an understatement.
Episode 4 saw Herrmann’s family lose everything they had when their house went up in flames, with episode 5 watching as Herrmann tried to pick up the pieces of his life and begin moving forward with help from some friends. Severide and Kidd continued to settle into life as foster parents, and we began to finally get some answers about how Sal came to land at 51.
The episodes also happened to sideline a key member of the cast for multiple weeks with Dermot Mulroney’s Chief Pascal MIA for episodes 4 and 5. It was explained that Chief Pascal was helping at other firehouses as a result of the firing of six battalion chiefs in the CFD due to budget cuts, and his absence has left fans wondering if this was going to be an extended break for Mulroney. Fortunately, that’s not going to be the case.
Dermot Mulroney returns in Chicago Fire season 14 episode 6
After missing a few episodes, Dermot Mulroney will finally be back in the upcoming sixth episode of Chicago Fire season 14, airing Wednesday, November 5. Mulroney’s return has been confirmed via both new photos from episode 6 as well as the episode synopsis, which both offer up some details on what Chief Pascal will be up to upon his return.
In episode 6, “Broken Things,” Pascal will return, and he’s going to be taking on a bit of a mentoring role in his first episode back. After turning to Severide to help look out for 51 when he’s away, Pascal will take him further under his wing in the episode, with Severide set to shadow Pascal for the day.
As the below photos from the episode tease, it looks like Severide will be lending a hand to Pascal in reviewing plans of some kind. Whatever plans the pair seem to be working on, it seems Mayor Benning’s Chief of Staff, Annette Davis, will be involved as we see the pair meeting with her in one of the photos, suggesting perhaps whatever they’re working on is related to something that could impact the full CFD.
We’ll find out exactly what Pascal and Severide are teaming up to tackle when the episode airs, but we’re definitely excited to see Pascal continuing to lean on Severide.
It’s wild to think about the tensions between the two characters when Chief Pascal first came to 51 and amazing how far they’ve come in such a short time. Pascal and Severide might go about things differently, but at the end of the day, they both want the best for the CFD and for 51. They've formed a really unique mentor and mentee dynamic, and we're excited to see it continue to play out as the season continues.
