Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) has not had a ton to do in Chicago Fire season 13. The character has been present, as always, but her personal life has taken a backseat to the drama and the turmoil of her peers. This is going to change, however, when the show returns for the season's second half.

Andrea Newman was asked about Kidd's role in Chicago Fire moving forward, and the showrunner assured fans that she will be front-and-center. Furthermore, Newman told TV Line that crucial info about Kidd's family will be explored for the first time.

"Soon into the second half of the season," the showrunner asserted. "Someone from Kidd’s family shows up in Chicago." The dynamic between this family member and the firefighter will bring forth new information, and this information will inform Kidd's decision to start her own family.

Kidd and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) have never been on the same page when it comes to raising kids. The latter initially balked at the idea, but then came around in the season 12 finale, which caused some inner-conflict for the career-minded Kidd.

Andrea Newman assures fans that the revelations about Kidd's past will not only put her character and her past decisions into perspective, but it will spur her to reach a concrete decision on the topic of children.

"The history that is revealed," the showrunner added. "Leads Kidd and Severide to restart their conversation about what having their own family means to them." This is a relief to hear, frankly. The couple have been stuck in place for a bit, and the only time we've gotten concentrated Stellaride time in season 13 has been on the job.

It'll be nice to see the two of them step back, refocus their priorities, and decided whether or not they want to have kids. It's a long time coming, too. Miranda Rae Mayo was asked about the chance of her character getting pregnant as far back as October.

"I think there’s some perfectionism that’s kind of paralyzing her," Mayo told Soaps.com. "And also, I mean, look at her job, look at all of the horrific things that she sees on a day-to-day basis." There's definitely a perfectionist streak that informs Kidd's actions. We can only assume the family member that re-enters her life helps her to recognize the pros (and cons) of this mindset.
