Chicago Fire season 15 might not premiere until October 7, but the team behind NBC’s hit series has been hard at work on the new season for several weeks now. Production on season 15 began in late July, and the show has banked several episodes already, with recent reports indicating the show is currently in production on season 15, episode 5, which will serve as the show’s 300th episode.
Expectations for the episode are high as Chicago Fire has a history of delivering major moments in its milestone episode, and new photos from the set seem to indicate that trend will continue. The question is whether the 300th episode will bring about a celebration or potentially bring about a funeral procession.
Photos have begun circulating of several key members of the Chicago Fire cast spotted on set at the firehouse that serves as the backdrop for Firehouse 51 wearing dress blues. Our clearest photo sees the likes of Mouch, Vasquez, Capp, and Ballard together, all donning their dress blues, which signals to us that the 300th episode is going to include a special occasion or ceremonial event of some kind.
Dress blues are the formal attire worn by firefighters on special occasions, so whenever we spot the cast wearing them, we know something big is coming, as there have only been a few instances when they have come into play: a funeral or a formal ceremony. Sadly, we’ve seen the dress blues dusted off and donned more frequently for funerals than formal ceremonies on the show, and we’re definitely worried about whether it’s a funeral or a dedication ceremony.
There has been some speculation that the 300th episode will be Joe Minoso’s final episode, and we know that Chloe and Javi will both appear in the episode. Knowing that, we have to wonder if the dress blues worn by the likes of Mouch and Vasquez could be hinting that the 300th episode might feature a dedication ceremony for Cruz or perhaps the funeral of Cruz.
We know that Minoso is exiting the show, and there were recent casting rumors that seemed to hint the show could be bringing Yuri Sardarov back as Otis. We initially wondered if perhaps Otis might come to Cruz in a dream and push him to fight his way back to his family, but with the cast spotted in dress blues, we now have to wonder if perhaps the show could bring Otis back to help Joe cross into the great beyond, which is a tactic many shows have deployed through the years. NCIS literally just pulled that off last season when they killed off Rocky Carroll’s NCIS director Leon Vance, with a young Ducky played by Adam Campbell appearing in the episode to help Vance process his own death.
Our hope is that this will not be the case, but we’re certainly feeling more anxious, though there is another possible explanation for the dress blues.
While there is a chance that the dress blues could be donned for a funeral or memorial, there is also a chance that they might be worn for Severide’s promotion ceremony to recognize his promotion from lieutenant to captain. The show made a spectacle of Casey’s promotion to captain, and seeing Severide’s captain ceremony unfold in the 300th episode would definitely be an exciting moment to include in the milestone episode.
Severide might not be a fan of being the center of attention, but we’d love to see him put into the spotlight in the 300th and get to see his captain ceremony. It’s a major milestone for the character, and it should be marked in celebration!
